Poultry & Eggs

In 2010, the first chicks arrived on our homestead. Two attempts that year at raising batches of 40 chicks, some laying hens and some Cornish Cross meat chickens, ended in disaster due to predator protection problems. Only 7 made it in the freezer that year. Chickens were put on hold for the next few years until more research and planning could result in a successful endeavor starting in 2017.

Our chickens (plus a couple of guinea fowl, ducks, and turkeys) are raised free-range inside electric netting, which provides the security they need to thrive on our property. The netting is moved about frequently, allowing the chickens to do their valuable work of tilling and prepping soil and compost, bug eating, and fertilizing.

Their free-range diet is supplemented with all kitchen & garden scraps and a home-mixed feed ration soaked in water with raw ACV and Redmond mineral salt which is non-GMO, soy-free, wheat-free, antibiotic-free, and omega 3-rich.

When available, we sell chicken eggs for $4/doz. and $5/doz. for guinea or duck eggs. Occasionally, we may have stewing hens available and are looking at options for potentially selling meat chickens and/or turkeys or ducks. Let us know what you think!
